The 'Don't Die' Mandate

Architecting a personal health system

The first step in product design is distilling the core user need you are trying to address. It has to be real, communicable, specifically addressable, and worthy paying for. Following an introduction via Balaji, I was brought in to shape the initial product architecture for Bryan Johnson's new brand, DON'T DIE. The objective was to define the overarching structure, core components, and the first version of product assembly for a cohesive consumer health system.

  • Role: Product Strategist & Architect
  • Presented To: Ryan Cabeen (CTO, Blueprint)
  • Objective: Translate the 'Don't Die' philosophy into a structured digital product.
  • Core Challenge: Moving from abstract longevity science to a concrete consumer experience.

The Architecture Framework

A 4-pillar methodology for product shaping

Before assembling features, I established a 4-step product shaping framework to ensure the system addressed a real user need without collapsing under technical bloat. This framework served as the architectural blueprint for the entire consumer experience. The interactive deck below details this methodology.

  • 1. Burning Consumer Need: Defining the one primary, acute problem the product must satisfy.
  • 2. Core Product Components: The absolute minimum viable modules required to address that need.
  • 3. The Curated Assembly: An elegant, coherent integration of those components into a single consumer experience.
  • 4. The Everyday Pattern of Use: Mapping how a power user interacts with the system daily to inform iterative design.

System Assembly: The Bio-Age Loop

Translating raw data into a social, shareable identity

Applying the framework, I mapped how raw biological data is collected into an 'Algorithmic Mosaic' that deeply profiles the user. Instead of overwhelming the consumer with clinical metrics, this mosaic feeds a complex longevity algorithm that outputs a single, actionable metric: BioAge. Crucially, this BioAge was designed as a social shareable card element, transforming a personal health metric into a viral growth loop.

  • The Algorithmic Mosaic: Aggregating all user data streams to build a comprehensive, personalized health profile.
  • The BioAge Output: Distilling complex backend calculations into a single, easily understandable consumer metric.
  • Viral Retention Loop: Packaging the BioAge as a social shareable card element to drive organic acquisition and daily engagement.
